Agoura's premiere location makes it a gateway to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. The historical area of Agoura is rich in it's significance to California history. The area was first inhabited by the Native American Chumash Indians who established homes in both coastal and inland locations. Centuries later, Spanish expeditions and explorations in the 1700's banished the Indians and introduced a ranching culture that resulted in the continued agricultural and economic development and maturation of what is now Agoura Hills. The City of Agoura Hills has the advantages of a city while maintaining a friendly, rural, small-town atmosphere within a twenty-minutes drive to the famed Malibu Beach. The small-town feel is evident in the community activities such as The Great Race, a 2K, 5K and 10K race, started by local parents and now one of the largest running events in the Los Angeles area, to raise money for local schools. The Reyes Adobe Days Fall Festival is another local event that serves to raise community and historical awareness. Schools Agoura Hills offers award-winning schools within the Las Virgenes Unified School District, the best school district in Los Angeles County. Students in the district scored well above the national and state average on the Stanford 9 Achievement Test. Wheather The weather in Agoura Hills resembles a cool Mediterranean climate with an average temperature of 65º F with an annual rainfall of 19.5" |
